The House

In the late 19th century at the end of Ottoman rule, wealthy merchants returned from North Africa & Asia Minor to build large mansion houses or ‘Arxontico’ in Pelion. With 1 meter thick stone walls, The Lotus Tree was built in 1884 by a tobacco merchant returning from Egypt, & occupied by this family until the great earthquake of 1953-4.

Commencing renovation work, many books and magazines were discovered dating from this year such as ‘Elle’ magazine with cover stars like Grace Kelly, Marlon Brando, and ‘Yineka’ magazine, displayed throughout the house as artwork alongside objects such as the original heavy wooden entrance doors. Renovated in every detail to the highest standard, the house is now open to welcome guests coming to explore the unique combination of Sea, Mountain, Forest & Stream Pelion provides.
